Best of 2023 - Number 2

Anyone who follows my blog or social media knows that I have favored sculpts when it comes to Integrity Toys (IT), and one of my very favorites is Vanessa Perrin (mold 1.0).  Summer in Taormina Vanessa Perrin (mold 3.0) already shows up in my 2023 Countdown at Number 4.  In 2022, my very favorite doll in my countdown was A Doll's Life Vanessa Perrin (mold 3.0).  It's hard to believe that the very first doll I received in 2023 turns out to be Number 2 in my countdown.

Here she is wearing the Garden of Excess Fashion Pack from the IT digital convention 7 Deadly Sins.  This doll was so stunning I actually purchased a second to redress and photograph.

Best of 2023 - Number 2 is Graceful Reign Vanessa Perrin (mold 1.0):

Best of 2023 - Number 4

Anyone who says "less is more" definitely doesn't work for X Magia 2000!   2022/2023 saw an extraordinary collaboration between Integrity Toys (IT) and X Magia 2000.   There were four dolls offered through W Club lottery, three were NuFace and one was Fashion Royalty.

The Fashion Royalty doll was a collector favorite, Vanessa Perrin; however, they used mold 3.0.  Here are two photos of the doll completely redressed property of IT.

And here are all the accessories.  Love the purse, the platform shoes, and those earrings!

But what did the production look like?  This girl is just truly extraordinary!  Best of 2023 - Number 4 is Integrity Toys/X Magia 2000 Summer in Taormina Vanessa Perrin.

The Tail Chasing Continues - 2023 Collecting Cycle Number 11 and Number 12

So ...  here we are a little over halfway through the first month of 2023 and I had added ten dolls to my collection, hadn't sold any dolls yet, and I just got two more notifications from Integrity Toys for dolls that were ready to ship!

The first was a W Club Exclusive.   She was the companion doll to the W Club Upgrade doll, Earth Angel Eden Blair, which was number 4 of my 2023 collecting cycle two posts back.  This doll was actually advertised in 2021 and predated the W Club Upgrade Eden; she just arrived after.   Confused yet?  Imagine how collectors feel!

Here is one of the promo photos of The NuClassic Lilith Blair, property of Integrity Toys.

Here are the accessories.

And here is a NRFB photo.  This doll is totally gorgeous.  She is one of the best NuFace dolls to come out of Integrity Toys.  Number 11 of my 2023 Collecting Cycle is The NuClassic Lilith Blair.

The next doll was one that you had to win the opportunity to purchase through a W Club lottery.  I was on the fence with this doll.  In 2022, Integrity Toys joined forces with Magia 2000 to collaborate on the production of a few IT dolls.  The first offering used the Vanessa Perrin character, which is a personal favorite of mine.

Here is one of the promo photos, property of Integrity Toys.

This doll is so over the top and doesn't really represent my collecting aesthetic.  But just look at all the accessories.  I figured all the "parts" could be used in mix and match situations.  The doll was lovely.  At the last minute, I entered the lottery.

I'm glad I entered (and won) because this doll is amazing.  Her secondary market prices skyrocketed right away.  Number 12 of my 2023 Collecting Cycle is Summer in Taormina Vanessa Perrin.

At least we were adding dolls in smaller numbers.  My first package was six dolls, my second was four, and this one contained two dolls.  But here it is the very beginning of the year and I had acquired twelve new dolls and still hadn't listed my first doll for sale!  I was definitely feeling overwhelmed.

Desperately Chasing My Own Tail ... Collection Cycle 2023 #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, and #6

It's difficult to believe it's been almost six months since my last post - my Number 1 doll purchase for my Best of 2022 Countdown.

Please excuse my extended absence from this blog; since my mother-in-law's illness and death just prior to Thanksgiving, we've had a lot to deal with.  I am finally taking a short breath and attending to some housekeeping.

Covid 19 just screwed up everything worldwide.  Plain and simple!   Supply chains.  Production facilities. Shipping.  Everything!

Since new doll shipments seem to come in tidal waves lately, collecting them has gotten more overwhelming and stressful.  My first shipment at the beginning of January actually contained SIX dolls added to my collection.  You read that correctly.  SIX!  At ONE time!

The W Club 25th Anniversary Edition doll was advertised in 2021, but she didn't start shipping to collectors until the end of December 2022.  Mine arrived in early January.  I was eager to see this doll because it used a favorite character mold, Vanessa Perrin 1.0.  Every time a blonde Vanessa Perrin 1.0 is produced collectors start screaming, "A revisit of Poesie Sans Couleur!"  Although there have been several produced over the years that may have given a nod to this iconic grail (especially Black Tie Ball), none have actually reached the aesthetic.   That is until now.

Graceful Reign Vanessa Perrin is just stunning.  Here is the Integrity Toys (IT) promo photo.

This doll comes with some nice accessories to go with that extravagant gown and cape.

As is often the case, the production doll is even better than the promo photos.  Here is a closeup of Graceful Reign in the box.

I fell in love with this face.  The hairstyle is even quite good.  In my opinion this doll can actually give Poesie Sans Couleur a run for her money!   But the proof is often in the redress, and this girl is amazing in a different ensemble.  Here she is wearing the boots from Afterglow Keeki Adaeze and the coat that came with Fierce Zuri Okoty (both of the IT Meteor line).

Collecting Cycle 2023 Addition Number 1 - Graceful Reign Vanessa Perrin.

Also arriving at IT during this time was the last doll from the NuFantasy Coven Couture Collection designed by Mark Tinkey.  This was the only doll from that line to capture my interest.  I thought the dress was the best of the four doll collection and the character chosen is one that hasn't been able to develop a strong fan base with collectors.  I actually liked this version of the character quite a bit.  This is the production photo by IT.

And a look at the accessories.

Again, the production doll is much better than the promo photos and the dress is actually more of a cocoa color in person.  The metallic threads tend to shift the color in many photos.  In my opinion, she is one of the better versions of this neglected character mold.

Collecting Cycle 2023 Addition Number 2 - Elements of Enchantment Korinne Dimas.

All three of the 2022 W Club Upgrade dolls arrived in the same shipment.  When you join the W Club, you have the option of adding three different dolls to your membership payment, representing three popular IT lines.  These dolls are usually offered at a special new member price.  In 2022 there was a 15% price hike, so W Club members had to pay regular doll prices of previous years.

The first 2022 W Club Upgrade doll represented their flagship line, Fashion Royalty, and was one of the most popular characters.

Here is the W Club promo photo from IT.

With the price increase, IT realized collectors would expect a little more, so that was reflected in the accessories.

Although a stunning doll in an interesting ensemble, this doll hasn't quite become as popular with collectors as previous versions.

Collecting Cycle 2023 Addition Number 3 - Up With a Twist Agnes Von Weiss.

For many years now, IT has been mixing things up by producing caucasian character molds as dolls of color.  Many of these have become collector favorites and some have even become grails.   This had been limited to the Fashion Royalty line until last year.  The second doll offered to new W Club members as an upgrade was a very popular NuFace character.

Here is the W Club promo photo from IT.

Accessories?  Yes, please.

How do you resist this doll?  IT collectors have been begging for denim, so here it is.  This girl has gotten very mixed reactions.  Some collectors just do not like her (primarily due to her face up) but some collectors are mad for her.  I this she is gorgeous and photographs beautifully.

Collecting Cycle 2023 Addition Number 4 - Earth Angel Eden Blair.

The final upgrade doll was one that I was very "on-the-fence" about.  Sometimes a designer can do "too much" with a doll, which is an unfortunate failing for the doll.  Here is the W Club IT Promo.

Another group of accessories.

Although this style is an accurate reflection of the fashion period on which it is based, I just think it is overdone.  Unfortunately, a lot of collectors agree as it has not been as popular as many of the other versions produced over the past few years.  I'm not sure this doll will be staying in my collection; however, I don't think she is selling well on secondary market at this time.

Collecting Cylce 2023 Addition Number 5 - Ultra Violet Poppy Parker.

The IT Online Convention for 2022 was called "Stay Tuned" and was quite a let down for collectors.  The only doll offered that I was remotely interested in purchasing was a Poppy Parker reminiscent of a television show I watched as a child, That Girl.  The doll was an obvious copy of the Marlo Thomas character.  Fortunately, I was able to win the right to buy this doll through a W Club lottery.

Here is the W Club IT promo photo.

A look at the accessories.

This doll was easily the very best from the digital convention.  Her screening is gorgeous.  Such a beautiful version.

Collecting Cycle 2023 Addition Number 6 - Miss Independence Poppy Parker.

Six dolls arriving at one time at the very beginning of the year was quite overwhelming.  So, how you feel if that were ten dolls arriving at one time at the very beginning of the year?  Stay tuned for my next blog post!

Best of 2022 - Number 1

So, we finally made it.  Thank you to my followers for staying with me for this countdown.

It doesn't take much digging to figure out that 36 dolls were added to my collection this year.   Six of those are not eligible for my countdown because they were purchased secondary market and were actually produced and received by collectors in previous years.  The four Jamieshow Muses girls, two male dolls, four Mystery Date Poppy Parkers, Varsity, Desert Dazzler, Wildflower, and Mademoiselle Annik have already been listed.   That only leaves sixteen contenders and ten of those were from the 2021 Obsession Convention; even though the virtual convention took place in late 2021, the majority of these dolls got delayed in shipping until 2022.

With the economy in such a bad spot and budgets being tight, a lot of collectors are seeking the most bang for their buck.   That's why the last four spots in my countdown were all dolls/doll lines/manufacturers that provided collectors the most fun for their investments.

The doll that brought me the most joy in 2022 was purchased from a new doll friend.  He only collects IT Hommes but got a ticket for the Obsession Convention.  He sold his female dolls at very reasonable prices; selling the gifted dolls for appx 1/3 his convention ticket price.  From all the Obsession Convention dolls this year, this doll was easily my very favorite.  The giftset was phenomenal with so many accessories and mix and match possibilities.   I reviewed this doll earlier in 2022  Collection Cycle 2022 Number 4 .

This doll is just gorgeous and redresses so well.  She's not just my favorite doll of 2022, she is probably my very favorite version of the Vanessa Perrin 3.0 mold.  She is "pretty in pink" in an Andymy fashion for New Year's Eve celebrations.

Number 1 of 2022 - A Doll's Life Vanessa Perrin.

Doll Collection Cycle 2022 - Number 4 A Doll's Life Vanessa Perrin

I have been waiting for the perfect time to take this doll out and spend some designated playtime with her, but things have been so busy this winter.  Since I am trying to be completely upfront with my collecting this year and not get too far behind, I decided to proceed with my review anyway to allow myself the opportunity to get caught up.

A Doll's Life Vanessa Perrin was my only "Must Have" doll from the 2021 Integrity Toys Obsession Convention.   She was designed by Mark Tinkey.  I have been a big fan of Mark Tinkey since I started collecting Misaki dolls in 2006.  Mark was recently given the design task to takeover the much-neglected NuFantasy line from Integrity Toys.  He has created two stellar dolls for that line already with Divining Beauty Adele Makeda (mold 3.0).  Photo property of Integrity Toys (IT).

And her predecessor Smoke and Shadows Vanessa Perrin (mold 3.0).  Photo property of IT.

A Doll's Life Vanessa Perrin was the "Welcome Event" doll and was a gift to online attendees as part of their convention registration ($525).  There seemed to be two complaints from collectors regarding this doll:

1. She looked very similar to Smoke and Shadows

2. She was too pink and reminded collectors a great deal of Mattel's Barbie dolls.

In regard to the first complaint, I can see the comparison to Smoke and Shadows.  I actually passed on Smoke and Shadows because it reminded me too much of several other dolls in my collection with smoky eyes and low blonde ponytails:  Renegade Dasha D'Amboise (2011), October Issue Agnes Von Weiss (2013), Secret Garden Eugenia Frost (2018), Passion Week Elyse Jolie (2018), and, most recently, Violet Obsidian Vanessa Perrin (2020).  As a matter of fact I had thinned out my collection of similar dolls in 2020 (See blog entry: Blonde IT Dolls With Ponytails )  Smoke and Shadows is a lovely doll, but I have a great deal of difficulty bonding with mold 3.0.  My favorite that is still residing in my collection is Star Power from 2015.

Since I didn't purchase Smoke & Shadows Vanessa Perrin, the similarity with A Doll's Life didn't affect my decision to add her to my collection.

Now about that complaint related to Barbie.  Doll collectors can be a fickle group of people.  I was surprised so many convention ticket holders complained that A Doll's Life was too much like "Barbie".   Didn't David Buttry just do an entire Style Lab on this concept in 2019 (Poppy Parker:  She's A Real Doll)?  He did interpretations that were almost duplicates of vintage Barbies and collectors lost their minds over this line.  Several grails came out of it.  Was A Doll's Life just too literal an interpretation of the first doll from the "Barbie Style" line?

Personally, I don't mind in the least.  If anything, A Doll's Life is "Barbie Style #1 on steroids".   Mark Tinkey commented that he wanted this to be a "fantasy of mix and match play".   There were so many incredible mix and match pieces.  This is a photo of the actual doll as packaged.

The next group of photos are all from the promotional post by Integrity Toys.

And just look at all the accessories!

I immediately thought "Grail Status" and was afraid I would never be able to buy this doll.  I now realize there is no predicting what collectors will do - this doll can still be picked up on secondary market for less than $400.  I was blessed to be in the right place at the right time.  One attendee who doesn't collect many female dolls offered A Doll's Life NRFB for sale for $200.  I was in tears when I was able to acquire her at that price.  I will always appreciate that individual and hope he reads this post.

Here is a closeup photo of my doll.  When things slow down a little, I plan to spend a lot of time with her.

I think she is one of the most beautiful versions of Vanessa Perrin ever produced.  #4 for 2022 is A Doll's Life Vanessa Perrin (mold 3.0)

Organization - Cabinet 1 Shelf 1

I have received comments from followers that they would like to see my collection and cabinets.  Unfortunately, I don't think anyone would be very impressed because I had been keeping my dolls, nude, in two bookcases.

My dear sweet husband gave me a couple detolf cabinets for Valentine's Day.   He reasoned that the cabinets would help me organize my collection and get it under control.  Bless his heart!

So, I decided to start at the beginning.

I pulled all of my older dolls out first.  It turns out I have 10 dolls from 2004 - 2005 that have been rebodied to taller bodies.   When possible, I decided to dress the dolls in their original ensembles.  (When a doll can no longer wear their original ensemble, I put them in an ensemble pre-2006.)

They all fit nicely on one shelf!  So Cabinet #1, Shelf #1 is finished:

Back row includes ...

Sheer Goddess Veronique Perrin (2004) in her original ensemble

Born To Gamble Kyori Sato (2005) in her original ensemble

Diamond Dusted Veronique Perrin (2004) in her original ensemble
